Lead Driver
Lead Driver

Reporting to the Supply Chain Logistics Manager / Lead Driver your key tasks will include
•    Delivering Aggregates & Asphalt in the Northern Area
•    Responsibility for the safe operation of 44t, 32 tonne tipper vehicles
•    Working as part of the Logistics team to ensure customer requirements are met efficiently and professionally
•    Comply with Eu driver hours Regulations and Tachograpgh Rules
•    Ensuring Daily Vehicle Defect & walk around checks are undertaken & and all defects reported with appropriate paperwork complete
•    Comply with all relevant H&S & Environmental policies
•    To be courteous and helpful to customers
•    Reporting to the Logistics Manager this role is the supporting role for the Logistics Manager, therefore you will be required to undertake all duties associated, including but not limited to: -

•    Carry out a Leadership role and set best practice by example (VFL’s HA)
•    Champion Safety always and to liaise with the driver force and Logistics Manager to ensure we have a Safe/Legal Logistics Operation
•    Champion Customer Care/Focus liaison with Logistics Manager and Planning dept’s
•    Encourage team building across all the functions.
•    Report Safety issues 
•    Ensure drivers concerns on vehicle defect rectification are relayed back to the Logistics Manager or Regional Engineer
•    Vehicle/driver audits

•    Assist in the gathering of information on driver performance (Verilocaton - Monthly Fuel stats etc.) 
•    Forward plan Fleet Establishment Rota’s for planning and other Logistics functions
•    Complete daily generic spread sheets for vehicle operations (LPVD etc.)
•    Assist Logistics Manager with employee lifecycle tasks i.e. absence case management
•    Management of drivers annual Holiday planning
•    Communicate drivers’ performance and provide feedback to the Logistics Manager
•    Assist with Vehicle / Site Accident/Incident issues
•    Inspection of Company vehicles to ensure they are kept clean both internally/externally and drivers’ process/procedures are being adhered to as regards legislation
•    Carry out driver / tipper assessments and assist with new staff (Company / Agency) Training will be provided.
•    Assist in investigation and disciplinary matters
•    Assist and manage Weekend and OOH shifts (planning)
•    Assist Logistics Manager with drivers annual 121’s
•    Carry out Black box Driver Inductions and training – Training will be provided.
•    Assist with HGV Traffic route planning
•    Suggest ways to improve and develop transport/availability/utilization/LPVD
•    Deputize for absent drivers (On the Spot LGV driving) 
•    Flexible approach to working hours and other duties 
•    On the Spot HGV driving of all types of Company vehicles (Driver cover when required)
•    Geographical knowledge of the Northwest
•    Ability to liaise with Weighbridge / Head office planning
•    Ideal candidate will be CPC holders, however full training and support will be provided to the successful candidate to gain this qualification, if required.
•    The successful candidate will be required to undertake a ISOH course if not already in possession of one
•    Willing to take on Logistic/Managerial projects
•    Must have excellent communication IT skills Excel/Word/PowerPoint
•    Ability to work under pressure to meet Objectives/KPI’s
•    Above all you will need to demonstrate reliability, enthusiasm and be flexible in your approach to the role
•    Traveling around the area will be a requirement of the role.
 

Skills Required:

*Possess LGV C+E (Class 1 & 2)
•    CPC – Training will be given
•    IOSH – Training will be given 
•    Possess LGV C+E (Class 1 & 2)
•    Full DCPC card in place
•    Full Digital Tachograph card in place
•    Previous LGV tipper operations on multi products
•    Full MPQC qualification required
•    Experienced Person on Aggregates and Asphalt Deliveries
•    In-depth Digital tachograph knowledge and WTD legislation
•    Demonstrate a flexible / committed and practical approach to work
•    Flexible approach to working hours as required by the business on both day/night/weekend
