London Underground recently won the award for Track Technology at the UK Rail Industry Awards for their concrete check rail bearer which was developed jointly with CEMEX Rail Solutions.
London Underground recently won the award for Track Technology at the UK Rail Industry Awards for their concrete check rail bearer which was developed jointly with CEMEX Rail Solutions.
The bearers are for use on tight radius curves where the addition of a check rail enables trains to stay on the track. In the past the solution has been to use timber bearers. Life expectancy is poor and London Underground has been keen to move away from non-sustainable sources for some time.
They anticipate the switch from timber to concrete will increase life of the bearer from 15 to 40 years.
