Last week Cambusmore Quarry Plant Operatives, George Oakes and Don Morrison, spotted a bird lying on the ground near the production plant. The bird was inspected for any obvious injuries but none were found.

It was identified as a rare Black Throated Diver. There are only between a 190 - 250 breeding pairs in the UK which are mostly found on Lochs in the north west of Scotland.

The site Management contacted the SPCA who came to the site and collected the bird. It was found to be suffering from exhaustion and is now recovering at a wildlife sanctuary, and will live to dive another day!
