CEMEX Building Award recognizes the best architecture and construction across 17 countries

CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced the winners of the 26th edition of the CEMEX Building Award at a ceremony celebrated on November 9, 2017, in Mexico City.
This year, the CEMEX Building Award received 545 entries in the domestic edition, from which 18 were selected winners. The international edition received 70 project entries from 17 countries: Colombia, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Guatemala, Haiti, Latvia, Nicaragua, Panama, Poland, Puerto Rico, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Mexico.
The jury, comprised of 13 representatives from the architectural and building industry, scholars, and private organizations from 7 countries, evaluated the projects submitted for their construction and architectural processes and solutions, their incorporation of sustainability features, and their value creation for society.
The CEMEX Building Award recognizes the best in architecture and construction in Mexico and the world in five categories and with four special prizes.

During the ceremony, the 2017 “Lorenzo H. Zambrano” Award was granted to Mexican landscape architect Mario Schjetnan Garduño. Schjetnan received this award in recognition of his professional trajectory and contribution to architecture through the design of public spaces that achieve a social, sustainable, and environmental purpose.

Also during the event, the “Architect Marcelo Zambrano” Scholarship was given to Paola Lopez, currently studying for a Master of Landscape Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. Additionally, the Scholarship Council recognized Tania Osorio by granting her a special sponsorship to study the History, Theory, and Society of Architecture at UC Berkeley.
Destined to foster the development of young professionals who show great potential for improving the culture of construction and design in Mexico, the “Architect Marcelo Zambrano” Scholarship is the most comprehensive financial support for the completion of postgraduate education in top international schools.
