CEMEX recognizes the best in architecture at its Building Award 2022 ceremony

CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced the winners of its CEMEX Building Award 2022 at a ceremony celebrated in Mexico City on November 3.

The contest received 394 projects in the Mexico edition, from which 21 were recognized as winners in their respective categories and special prizes. And for the International edition, the jury selected a total of 26 finalist projects from 11 countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Egypt, France, Jamaica, Mexico, Montenegro, Panama, Poland, the Philippines, and Spain.

“The Building Awards are an opportunity to remain close to our customers and provide a space to showcase the best in global construction,” said Fernando A. González, CEO of CEMEX. “It recognizes the essential contribution these projects have in building a better future through innovative and sustainable construction.”

This year’s jury is comprised of renowned engineers and architects from six countries: Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, and the United States. They evaluated the projects for their construction and architectural processes and solutions, incorporation of sustainability features, and value creation.

The competition is divided into five categories: Building, Collective Space, Infrastructure, Residential Housing, and Social Housing, and four Special Awards focused on environmental preservation and social impact: Innovation in Construction, Social Value, Sustainable Building, and Universal Accessibility.

The Lorenzo H. Zambrano Prize 2022, to recognize the career of an outstanding architect or engineer whose work is significant and memorable in Mexico and at an international level, was also awarded during the ceremony.

The award was granted to Architect Sara Topelson for her professional career in architecture, urban planning, heritage conservation, design, teaching, and politics in Mexico and around the world.

At the event, the Architect Marcelo Zambrano 2022 Scholarship was granted to Architect Isabel Palacios-Macedo Aguilar, who graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and is already studying for her master’s degree in Environmental Architecture at the Royal College of Art in London.

Architect Luis Young was also granted special support from the Scholarship. He is also a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and is completing his master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design at the Architectural Association in London.

For more than 16 years through the Architect Marcelo Zambrano Scholarship, CEMEX has fostered the development of recently graduated young architects whose academic and professional work demonstrates the enormous potential to contribute decisively and innovatively to the progress of Mexico’s culture of construction and design.
