Social Impact

Building a Better Future

At Cemex, our vision of building a better future lies at the core of our Social Impact strategy. We recognise the significant role we play in advancing community development to enhance the quality of life and wellbeing of all our stakeholders.

Our approach to social impact is rooted in the Cemex sustainability model, which prioritises listening to stakeholders and aligning our strategies with their needs to create shared value.

Our Social Impact Strategy

We make a positive and lasting difference in the communities where we operate, through four focus areas:

Improving employability and quality of life in communities

Supporting local economies through skills development and sustainability

Improving local community infrastructure and amenities

Creating green spaces and resilient communities, focusing on natural and built environments

Making a difference in communities

We are committed to making a difference in communities through a combined approach that encompasses community engagement, employee volunteering, and contributions through donations and sponsorships. Understanding the individuals needs of our communities, defines how we respond to key issues and how we can use our strengths to foster meaningful relationships with local communities.

Employees in the Community

We understand the pivotal role our employees play in nurturing community relationships and identifying engagement opportunities.

Through our Lend-a-Hand volunteering programme, our employees engage in skills-based and hands-on volunteering activities, allowing us to contribute to local community projects for both current and future generations.

We further support our employees and their chosen non-profit organisations through our internal matched funding.

Community Engagement Plans

Enhancing the wellbeing and quality of life of our communities is at the heart of our Social Impact strategy. We believe in fostering genuine community engagement that goes above and beyond. Through collaborative partnerships with community leaders and stakeholders, we co-create tailored Community Engagement Plans (CEPs) that address specific local needs.

Through continuous engagement, we build trust, gain an understanding of local needs, and address community concerns. We’re also able to respond quickly to community requests and provide support to a diverse range of organisations.

We also recognise local community priorities and support them through donations and sponsorships. The support that we provide can be through both funding and donations of materials to support local community groups and projects. By doing this, we maintain the flexibility to address key community needs whilst enhancing the wellbeing of all stakeholders.

We have assisted a range of initiatives in our communities, from providing kits for local junior football clubs and supplying reading books to local primary schools, to donating materials to heritage sites.

Community Investment Partnerships

Our community investment partnerships form the foundation of our commitment to social impact, helping to deliver projects and initiatives that are closely aligned to the needs of our local communities.

Collaborations with partners are pivotal in shaping learning and educational outcomes for young people, from science-focused school outreach initiatives, to creating road and rail safety awareness programmes and environmental education schemes.

Through supporting youth engagement and skills development programmes, we enhance our relationship with local community members and provide vital skills development for future generations.

Alignment to UN Sustainable Development Goals

Our determination to drive meaningful change and build a better future has led us to actively contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Cemex have prioritised a group of SDGs (9, 11, 12, and 13), that are directly align with our social impact strategy. This is achieved through collaborations and partnerships with local and international organisations, facilitating our efforts to build a better future for communities and enable a just transition to a lower-carbon economy.
