For the first time in the UK a nature monitoring scheme analysing the DNA of insects has been used to evaluate the natural condition and environmental 'health' of a site.

For the first time in the UK a nature monitoring scheme analysing the DNA of insects has been used to evaluate the natural condition and environmental 'health' of a site.

The pilot was run in conjunction with the Biodiversity Institute of Ontario and System Applications Products (SAP) at CEMEX's Rugeley quarry site near Cannock in the West Midlands and revealed two rare and two scarce species of fly.

The project could provide the next generation to solutions to improve habitats for wildlife across our operational sites.
