The use of underground cables has increasingly become the preferred choice when compared with the visual impact of pylons and overhead lines. However, when power cables are buried in the ground the high voltages generate a large amount of heat which result in performance reductions and expensive maintenance interventions.

Applications

Thermocrete is a heat-conducting thermal backfill for high voltage underground cables.

Product Range

Thermocrete 14:1 is our cement bound sand (CBS) product which is used as a bedding and backfill material for underground LV and HV cables. Thermocrete 14:1 has a low thermal resistance and as a result, the material can conduct heat, away from the cables that are produced during electricity transmission.

With all the benefits of Thermosand and improved thermal performance, the product is ideal for applications where extra stability is required. Due to its composition, Thermocrete can also be removed relatively easily if required. The product is designed to meet the requirements of industry requirements including ENA TS 97- 1 and NGTS 3.05.07.

Thermocrete Ultra is our high-performance specialist thermal conducting concrete which is used as a bedding and backfill material for underground HV and UHV cables. Thermocrete Ultra has a very low thermal resistance and as a result, the material can conduct significant amounts of heat, away from the cables, produced during electricity transmission.

 

Designed specifically to meet your specification requirements Thermocrete Ultra can be supplied in a range of consistencies and compressive strengths.
