Dove Holes Team on the Right Path?
The Canal and River Trust needed volunteers to help lay a path at the side of Combs reservoir, approximately three miles from our Dove Holes site.
The reservoir is very popular with anglers, walkers, cyclists and people who use the water for sailing.
The path which runs the length of the reservoir has become quite treacherous over the years and after the heavy rainfall of late, was unpassable in areas.
With scalping’s provided by the council and machinery provided by the Canal and River Trust, the Lend a Hand event ensured another section of path is now safe and passable for years to come.
Well done to the whole team who worked hard to improve the area for the local community, making the path safer for all users and improving the appearance of the area: Roger Taylor, Steven Wall, Daniel Gordon, Brian Gregory, Tim Kearney, John Gregory, Simon Kirk, Lee Carolan, Gary Carolan, Nick Gregory, Stuart Brown and James Ball.
The activity inspired this poem from an anonymous member of the team:
With puddles and mud the ground was truly sodden,
A scar along the lakeside where lots of feet had trodden.
So we built a path on our lend a hand for feet and paws to pass,
For future generations to enjoy, and to keep them off the grass.
Not every path you choose can be right, in life or on the land,
But this one is a little bit better, due to our ‘Lend a hand’.
