Donations and Sponsorships

Supporting the development of children

At Cemex, we are passionate about enhancing the learning experiences and outcomes of children and continuously engage with local schools to understand the potential needs of students.

We support a variety of schools in the UK, including Long Lawford Primary School in Warwickshire, where we have provided a range of donations. One of these included the purchase of two book vending machines, to support the school’s Reading for Pleasure initiative, which aimed to create a positive outlook of reading books to its pupils, Cemex employees also donated books to the school, which could be used for the vending machine.

Cemex also provided financial donations to the school to help their younger students overcome the challenges faced when transitioning from early years to Year 1. The shift to a more formal learning style can lead to social and emotional difficulties and a potential loss of enthusiasm for learning. With this donation, we are able to support the development of children in our local community, helping to ensure that they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Supporting community events - Hamplified

Hamplified is a combined rugby 7s, comedy and music festival, that takes place in Rugby every year. The festival was set up a decade ago by two Cemex employees, Robert Lowe and Mark Brightwell, to help raise money for their friend and co-founder, Andy Smith, who suffered a serious spinal injury whilst playing rugby. Hamplified has since become a very popular event with local residents, with hundreds of people in attendance over the course of the day.

Cemex is passionate about supporting community events in which its employees are involved with, and has become a proud sponsor of Hamplified, most recently providing sound equipment and safe staging for acts performing at the festival.

Money raised from Hamplified goes towards supporting the Matt Hampson Foundation, which supports young people who have picked up serious injuries through sport, a charity close to co-founder Andy’s Heart.

Sponsoring Junior Sports Teams

Playing sports can have a significant impact on the growth and development of young children. It provides an opportunity for children to develop new skills and build new friendships, whilst promoting good physical and mental wellbeing.

There are social barriers that can prevent children entering sport however, such as overall cost and lack of available opportunities, which is why Cemex have been sponsoring sports teams across the UK. By doing this, we help to lower the potential cost of joining clubs, which can help to create more opportunities for children to get into sport.

Most recently, we entered into a partnership with Rugby Borough Football Club, sponsoring their junior girls and senior women’s teams.

Supporting heritage sites - Slough Fort

The Slough Fort Preservation Trust is a community organisation, which aims to secure long-term restoration and development of Slough Fort, a 19th century heritage site, based on the Thames Estuary in Kent.

Cemex is a proud supporter of the trust, in May 2024 we supplied cement powder to help support the restoration of Slough Fort.

Sponsoring local competitions – Halkyn

Creating positive stakeholder experiences is a key priority of Cemex, this includes supporting local events that employees are involved in.

Cemex’s Halkyn Quarry were proud to sponsor a local ploughing competition, which saw one of the quarry’s employees, Graham Jones, compete against members of the community.

The competition provided an opportunity for community members to engage in a friendly display of agricultural prowess. With a wide range of ploughing classes, the event was accessible to participants of all skill levels. In his challenge group, Graham managed to achieve second place.
