VIABASE Case Study

Panattoni Park Bolton Project

VIABASE Bolton

The Panattoni Park Bolton project is an industrial and logistics location at the heart of North-West England. As part of this new development CEMEX partnered with Derek Lewis to provide Asphalt materials to the site. These materials were initially to be standard Base and Binder mixes followed by a suitable Surface course. As the details of the planned material were discussed it became apparent that there would be an area of the site were binder material would be trafficked during the continued construction of civils and would not have a surface course laid for a sustained period. During this method of construction, the binder layer is subject to the impact of heavy construction vehicles which can result in wear and tear. This can sometimes result in rigorous cleaning being required and possibly a replacement of the top surface before the final Surface course can be laid.

VIABASE® is an engineered Asphalt Concrete specifically designed for use in the construction of industrial sites and housing estate roads. The use of carefully graded aggregate and a high binder content ensures VIABASE® is more able to resist the impact of heavy vehicles associated with the construction phase of industrial and housing developments when compared to traditionally used dense asphalt concrete mixes. As such it was agreed that VIABASE® would be used to replace the traditional Binder layer in this area reducing the potential these problems onsite.

VIABASE® Is highly resistant to wear from heavy vehicles associated with construction. It has a smooth dense surface finish. It is resistant to deformation and less prone to ravelling. It is a highly durable, low maintenance surface and is easier to clean prior to application of surface courses.
